Project's context and challenges

VPK Group produces sustainable packaging such as recycled paper, corrugated packaging, solid board packaging and cores and edge protectors. VPK Group Oudegem wanted to expand their existing wastewater treatment plant and reached out to Econvert due to Econvert’s proven experience with wastewater treatment in recycled paper mills. An Econvert-IR® was implemented into the existing wastewater treatment plant  because of its ability to deal with high calcium concentrations and a customer oriented project approach. VPK Group was also dealing with space constrictions, which was another reason for choosing the Econvert-IR® since this anaerobic installation has the smallest footprint.

Solution

As an expansion to the wastewater treatment plant at VPK Group in Oudegem, Econvert designed, engineered and delivered an Econvert-IR® with a small footprint that would fit in the limited space. All equipment, internals and tanks were supplied by Econvert. Econvert-IR® is part of VPK’s state of the art wastewater treatment and recycling plant, enabling recycled paper production with low water consumption. The biogas produced by the Econvert-IR® is cleaned and used in the boiler to produce the necessary steam for paper production.
