Our story
Coldep was founded in 2011 by Julien Jacquety. It is based on research carried out by Bertrand Barrut, who joined the company at the beginning. Two international patents (No. 07/02308 and No. 09/57898) have been filed.
The company deploys its process primarily in aquaculture by providing the central device of any farm (RAS for Recirculating Aquaculture System) to treat water (saline or fresh) in a circular manner and at a very high flow rate.
In 2020, Coldep designed a modified version of the VAL to be adapted to the treatment of industrial effluents in the agri-food, chemical and stationery sectors.
Why Vacuum Air Lift (VAL) technology?
Economical
Flow rates up to 1500 m³/h with limited OPEX (excellent maintenance and energy efficiency).
Easy to Maintain
Automated system with no need for heavy supervision.
Reliable and Robust
No clogging (free-flow treatment) and remote motors (outside wet zones).
Eco-friendly
Few (VAL INDUS) or no additives (VAL AQUA) for recoverable concentrated waste.
Compact
A vertical process that requires a small footprint.
Multi-functional
Three combined or separate functions: particle extraction, gas dissolution and degassing, and water circulation.
Our VAL applications
Our VAL technology can we applied to multiple water and wastewater applications:
Industrial effluents
Uncompromising treatment of industrial effluents with VAL INDUS.
Your benefits:
- Reduction of polluting loads
The VAL INDUS process makes it possible to reduce up to 95% of the pollutants present in the effluents (DCO, MES, DB05) by up to 95%, thus ensuring discharges in accordance with strict environmental standards and minimizing risks for the environment. - Energy saving and cost reduction
The VAL INDUS system consumes up to three times less energy than traditional processes, while simplifying the management of consumables, thus offering an economical solution over the long term without sacrificing efficiency. - Valorization of sludge and optimization of space
Thanks to its vacuum flotation process, the VAL INDUS system makes it possible to concentrate solids, facilitating the valorization of sludge and reducing the land space required for wastewater treatment plants.
Aquaculture
VAL AQUA is at the heart of aquaculture processes
The process guarantees optimal management of water quality. With more than 140 installations in France and internationally, it is a central element of aquaculture recirculation systems (RAS) and purification basins.
PFAS concentration
A technology to extract and concentrate PFAS, part of the PFAS Resolve Portfolio
Recent and currently ongoing experiments and tests are particularly promising on the effectiveness of the VAL system on persistent pollutants.
VAL technology uses “foam fractionation” to separate PFAS from water by creating vacuum foam.
Coldep has granted SEAREN an exclusive license to use its patented vacuum flotation technology (VAL™) for the North American market. Since May 2022, SEAREN has been using this license to perform PFAS removal tests using Coldep’s innovative VAL™ technology at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Test and Evaluation Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Supported by consultancy and pilot testing
PFAS Resolve is backed by NSI’s Lifecycle Services and i-CONSULT capabilities, covering technology selection, bench-scale validation, pilot testing and full-scale implementation.
Several industrial clients are currently testing PFAS Resolve technologies under real operating conditions as part of structured decision-making programs toward full-scale deployment. Existing full-scale references span sectors including waste management, chemicals and semiconductors.
Desalination
Simplifying the stages of pre-treatment of seawater before desalination
By providing a solution to the main technical constraints impacting reverse osmosis membranes: Filter clogging, impacts and cost of chemical additives, energy cost of traditional solutions.
Your benefits:
- Reduced energy costs and footprint
The VAL AQUA process offers an effective pre-treatment that significantly reduces energy needs and optimizes the use of space. By consolidating several functions into a single device, it makes it possible to reduce the footprint of installations, thus facilitating integration into existing infrastructures or new desalination projects. -
Protecting membranes and improving water quality
By effectively eliminating viruses, bacteria and microalgae, VAL AQUA protects your desalination membranes, extending their lifespan and increasing their efficiency. This treatment ensures the production of high quality fresh water, which is essential to meet the most demanding standards. -
Optimization of investments and installation flexibility
Thanks to VAL AQUA’s ability to treat seawater near the coast, even in more polluted areas, it is no longer necessary to invest in long pipes to capture water away from the coast. This flexibility reduces initial investment costs and allows for faster and cheaper implementation of desalination projects.
Decarbonation
Reduce CO₂ emissions of your industrial installations
With an innovative solution that captures and processes industrial gases while optimizing your operational costs.
Your benefits:
- Capturing and effectively treating CO emissions₂
VAL AQUA makes it possible to capture and treat CO emissions₂ directly at the source, offering a robust solution to reduce the carbon footprint of your industrial installations. Currently, this technology is being implemented on a large scale as part of the VASCO project, in collaboration with ADEME at the port of Marseille. -
Optimizing operational costs through advanced technology
By integrating the capture of industrial gases into a single device, VAL AQUA reduces emissions management costs while increasing treatment efficiency. This approach is currently being tested within the REDWINE project in Portugal, supported by the European Union, demonstrating its potential on an industrial scale. -
Application flexibility for various industrial environments
The significant release of CO2 in industrial smoke is a major environmental problem. Coldep’s VAL process allows manufacturers to capture and, above all, revalue this CO2 using it in various fields of application. It has made it possible to reach unprecedented scales in these applications. It has thus been used for 2 years in VASCO and REDWINE projects. These European research projects aim to recover some of the industrial or agricultural fumes and to inject them into a microalgae culture medium.
Sanitation
Turn your wastewater into a resource
With a solution that can be integrated into a global reuse process (REUT).
Your benefits:
- Advanced purification for safe reuse of wastewater
By effectively eliminating pollutants, fine particles and pathogens, VAL is positioned as an effective alternative or complement to the usual microfiltration processes, ensuring that wastewater from STEP is perfectly suited to safe reuse, in accordance with the most stringent standards in terms of REUT. -
Technological integration for maximized performance
The VAL technology, in collaboration with an R&D project conducted with Bio-UV, is designed to overcome the challenges associated with the presence of fatty elements that are difficult to treat. By combining VAL technology with a UV destruction system, we obtain a double purification of wastewater, without the disadvantages of conventional solutions. -
Cost reduction and resource optimization
Thanks to the absence of a filter, VAL technology not only simplifies maintenance but also reduces energy costs, while improving the efficiency of treating large volumes. By allowing the reuse of wastewater, even in the presence of difficult elements such as fats, this innovative system, combined with UV technology, offers a sustainable solution.
