Project Context and Challenges

Environmental target and project ambition

Copenhagen’s ambition is becoming the world’s first CO2-neutral capital by year 2025, and the whole project was born as environmental-friendly

Condensate water purification purpose

The purpose of the Condensate Water Treatment Plant is to purify the flue gas condensate from the condensers and/or humidifiers. The treated condensate is partially discharged, and partially used as feedstock for the Make-up Water Production Plant in order to generate demineralized water.

Technical challenge

Within a complicated overall system architecture, consisting of several purification steps, one of the main challenges is the removal of toxic heavy metal. Traces of heavy metals are often present in the flue gas condensate, and the acceptable values for discharge of the treated condensate are extremely low.

Customer Benefits

Compliance with strict environmental discharge limits

The treatment solution reduces heavy‑metal concentrations to ppt levels, enabling safe discharge of treated condensate in line with stringent regulatory requirements.

Secure reuse of treated condensate

Part of the treated water is reused as feedstock for demineralized water production, supporting efficient internal water management.

Reliable operation in a complex treatment architecture

The multi‑stage design ensures stable performance within a highly integrated purification system.

Proven removal of toxic heavy metals

Advanced treatment steps effectively remove trace quantities of heavy metals present in flue gas condensate.

Support for climate‑neutral energy production

The solution contributes to the sustainability goals of the biomass power plant by enabling environmentally responsible water treatment.
