Your challenges

Presence of H2S in biogas
H2S is a corrosive component in biogas that requires treatment, before the biogas can be utilized as an energy source. Econvert-Dsulph® achieves a 99% H2S removal rate, making the biogas suitable for direct reuse or additional polishing with activated carbon, depending on your needs.
Sustainability and carbon footprint goals
There is pressure for companies to become more sustainable and to achieve certain sustainability goals. Econvert-Dsulph® ensures that energy recovered is not only renewable but also enables to burn the biogas in a correct way without harmful sulfur compounds. Its low chemical consumption and reliable biological performance makes the Econvert-Dsulph® more efficient than alternative methods.
Rising energy costs
As energy prices continue to rise, alternative energy sources such as biogas become an important energy source. Econvert-Dsulph® treats biogas and ensures it always meets the required quality, pressure and humidity for energy reuse at all times. The reliable performance and non-clogging set-up enables a high uptime and high energy recovery availability.
Want to know how our innovative wastewater treatment and biogas desulfurization solutions can benefit your business?
The process
The process can be considered as a caustic scrubber combined with a bioreactor in which the spent caustic solution is regenerated through aeration. A pump recirculates the washing fluid. In the scrubber, hydrogen sulfide is absorbed under alkaline conditions. The alkalinity consumption due to the absorption of H2S is compensated by the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide to elemental sulfur, which proceeds under oxygen-controlled conditions. Econvert-Dsulph® uses bacteria to oxidize the hydrogen sulfide. These bacteria grow very fast and are known to be highly resistant to varying process conditions. A small part of the dissolved sulfide will be oxidized to sulphate.
Our positive impact
The perfect blend of biology and chemistry.

>99% H2S removal efficiency
H2S removal rates of over 99% can be achieved. Due to the high H2S removal rates, the biogas can be reused directly or only needs minor additional polishing with activated carbon filters depending on end-user requirements.
Low operational costs
Due to the regeneration of the alkalinity in the bioreactor the operational costs are low. Compared to chemical systems where no alkalinity is regenerated, the amount of caustic consumption can be up to 20 times less.
No clogging
There is a low risk of clogging in the scrubber since no biological activity takes place there. The prevention of clogging provides low downtime and a reliable system for biogas desulfurization. The scrubber of the Econvert-Dsulph® is kept clean by a high flow of the washing media which prevents any bacterial growth in the scrubber.
No addition of oxygen needed
Econvert-Dsulph® keeps the chemical and biological steps separate, eliminating the need to add oxygen into the biogas. Econvert-Dsulph® is ideal as pre-treatment before upgrading to biomethane (>99% CH4).
