How does it work?
The process
Wastewater containing coarse solids is first macerated, then fed into a stirred anaerobic digester with a membrane roof for gas storage. The membrane support net also serves as a bacteria carrier, enabling partial desulphurization of the biogas. Gentle mixing and solid-liquid separation help preserve biomass activity and ensure consistent performance. The treated water is either discharged directly or polished, while the biogas is recovered for energy use.
The solid-liquid separation step with a Dissolved Gas Flotation (DGF) is the ideal process unit as it is robust and at the same time gentle for the treatment of biomass. The clarified liquid is directly discharged or introduced to a polishing step. Due to the high removal rates in the Econvert-DGF process any aerobic post-treatment is very compact and requires less energy to meet final requirements. The anaerobic digestion in combination with the solid-liquid separator makes a suitable one-step approach when combine two streams.
