Project's context and challenges

The paper mill produces a range of containerboard liners and flutings for the sustainable manufacturing of corrugated board and packaging. As part of a site-wide modernization effort, the existing anaerobic reactor, which was underperforming, was replaced with an Econvert-IRC® reactor. The upgrade significantly improves treatment performance while maximizing biogas production for energy re-use. To clean the produced biogas for use in the mill’s boilers, the Econvert-Dsulph® was implemented for biological desulphurization.

Solution
Econvert delivered a high rate Econvert-IR® reactor to replace the existing anaerobic installation. The installation has been designed to treat up to 45 tons of COD per day. The upgrade significantly improves treatment performance at the paper mill while maximizing biogas production for energy re-use. In addition to this, an Econvert-Dsulph® was installed to reduce H2S levels to below 100 ppm in order to utilize the biogas in the mill’s boilers.
