Project's context and challenges

VPK Group produces sustainable packaging such as recycled paper, corrugated packaging, solid board packaging and cores and edge protectors. When the Alizay paper mill was acquired by VPK Group, the paper machine was converted from a machine making office paper to a machine producing packaging from 100% recycled paper. Because of this change, the wastewater became suitable for anaerobic treatment resulting in a return of investment for anaerobic treatment and biogas re-use within a few months. The Econvert-IR® was implemented into the existing wastewater treatment plant with aerobic treatment. To clean and re-use the produced biogas in the paper machine’s boiler, the Econvert-Dsulph® was implemented.

Solution

Econvert delivered an Econvert-IR® before the existing aerobic treatment in order to enable the production change from office paper to recycled containerboard. In addition to this an Econvert-Dsulph® is installed to remove H2S from the produced biogas, in order to utilize the biogas in the boiler providing steam for the paper machine.
