Project’s context & challenges
Riventa collaborated with a UK public water authority to optimize its network. The project reduced network energy costs and won the Pump Centre's ''Project of the Year 2016''.
The network supplis the Smisby, Ragdale, and Hallagate reservoirs through:
-
1 Water Treatment
-
1 Turbine and Break Tank
-
2 Reservoirs
-
7 Pumping Systems
-
Abstraction from a river
Historic energy-use variations required a data-driven optimization approach under the AMP6 efficiency framework.
Key figures
9% energy cost reduction
£400k/year
19% potential savings
£855k/year
£200k/year savings
from £300k CAPEX
<1 year payback
for operational improvements
Expansion across all Severn Trent Sites
"''The impressive results have changed the way the network operated and it is intended to roll the system out to other networks across the AMP6 period to utilize this new information-driven approach as a key-feature in targeting resources for OPEX reduction and CAPEX allocation fulfilling the TOTEX mandate'' "
Customer benefits
9% reduction in energy costs with no CAPEX
Clear, data-driven operational guidance
Identified further investment savings
Adopted as a model for wider network optimization
Solution
Riventa installed FREEFLOW monitoring systems on 26 pumps and created a Decision Support System (DSS) using Artificial Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms to optimize network operation and energy use in real time.
