Your challenges
Ensuring reliable water treatment while meeting strict environmental standards, including:
Reducing water intake / safe ingredient water: zero consumer health impact
Reduce the impact of water use on the environment from wells or municipalities but also safeguard the safest ingredient water to avoid any impact on consumers health.
Reducing discharge cost / meet upcoming regulations
Without adequate treatment, you might be paying high cost to the local water authority for discharging untreated raw wastewater to the sewer. Or, upcoming regulations might force you to build a new treatment plant or expand your current treatment plant.
Reducing water cost and focus on water stewardship to meet sustainability goals
Reusing wastewater for process cleaning purposes and reusing process water from pasteurization lines and cooling water towers can help you meet your sustainability goals.
Missed opportunities to get more value out of your wastewater
There’s a lot of value left in your wastewater. Recovering resources from your water can turn it into an energy source, heat source, or when you start selling resources f.e. as fertilizer you will turn cost into profit!
Meeting regulations / compliance
To ensure the continuity of your core operations you must meet environmental regulations related to water.

Types of water for the food and beverage industry
Water is essential at every stage of food, beverage, and dairy production — not just as an ingredient, but as a driving force for hygiene, efficiency, and sustainability.
Drinking water as an ingredient
Clean, safe and reliable drinking water is a core ingredient in many products. We help producers meet strict quality and safety requirements by delivering trusted process water treatment solutions that ensure consistent taste, stability, and compliance.
Process water as cleaning agent and transport medium
Process water supports key operations — from rinsing equipment to moving raw materials through the production line. We design systems that optimize water use while maintaining hygiene, protecting product integrity and extending asset life.
Water and wastewater as a source of energy
Wastewater holds untapped potential. At NSI, we help turn organic waste or high COD levels (sugar) in the wastewater into renewable energy, such as biogas or recovered heat, reducing carbon emissions and cutting operational costs.
Water recycling and reuse
Reducing water footprint is no longer optional. We empower our clients to recycle and reuse water safely and effectively, meeting both environmental targets and operational needs. Together, we give water the value it deserves — and make every drop count.

Australis Seafoods – industrial wastewater treatment plant
Project’s context & challenges
Australis Seafoods, a leading salmon producer in Chile, is committed to sustainable aquaculture and responsible water management. To meet strict local and international discharge regulations, the company partnered with Nijhuis Saur Industries (NSI), part of Saur Group, to develop a modular and efficient wastewater treatment solution tailored to the fish processing industry.
Meet local and international regulations
To meet local and international discharge regulations of wastewater effluent, Australis was looking for a reliable water treatment plant supplier with the right fish industry expertise.
Modular and flexible was needed
Due to the mixed wastewater influent characteristics and the dynamic water flows, a modular and flexible needed to be implemented.

Cedrob Wastewater and Biogas Plant
Context
Cedrob S.A., a leading poultry producer in Poland, aimed to become energy self-sufficient while reducing its environmental footprint. With multiple slaughterhouses, hatcheries, and feed production facilities, Cedrob needed a robust wastewater treatment and biogas recovery solution to handle complex and variable effluents. The goal: turn waste into value and meet stringent discharge standards.
Solution
Nijhuis Saur Industries (NSI), part of Saur Group, delivered a full-scale wastewater treatment and biogas plant for Cedrob. The system treats wastewater from slaughtering, poultry farms, and sanitation processes. It includes mechanical pre-treatment, dissolved air flotation, aerobic treatment, and advanced anaerobic digestion. The biogas is desulfurized and reused for heat production, while the digestate is dewatered and repurposed as fertilizer.

Sharp’s Brewery Wastewater Treatment Plant
Context
To support its growing production and reduce environmental impact, Sharp’s Brewery in Rock, Cornwall, invested in a sustainable wastewater treatment solution. As the first brewery in South West England to adopt UASB technology, Sharp’s aimed to turn wastewater into a resource—recovering energy and reducing its liquid waste footprint. The brewery needed a compact, efficient, and future-ready system that aligned with its environmental ambitions.
Solution
Nijhuis Saur Industries (NSI), part of Saur Group, designed, built, and commissioned a turnkey wastewater treatment plant for Sharp’s Brewery. The system includes a curved screen for spent grain recovery, a flocculation-flotation (DAF) unit for solids removal, and an AECOMIX™ UASB reactor for anaerobic digestion. A flash aeration step removes hydrogen sulfide before discharge. The biogas produced is reused on-site, supporting Sharp’s sustainability goals and reducing reliance on external energy sources

VINNYTSIA Poultry farm – turning factory wastewater into clean effluent
Project’s context & challenges
Myronivsky Hleboproduct (MHP) is a dynamic and fast-growing company in the Ukraine, based on the unique model of vertical integration. MHP is one of the leaders of the agrarian market in poultry segment. LLC Vinnytsia Poultry Farm is the largest poultry farm in Europe, and is set up with equipment using the most up to date technology.
In order to treat the wastewater of the factory, Nijhuis designed and realized a complete pre-treatment, secondary treatment and tertiary treatment system to discharge clean effluent into the Ukrainian river. The water is produced by the slaughter lines (+/- 90%) and the remaining water (+/- 10%) comes from the rendering and hatchery production, crate box washers, car washers and municipal water.
"With over 3000 water solution references in the food and beverage industry, based on the unparalleled process water and wastewater knowledge from the Nijhuis / Nijhuis Water Technology, Econvert and Aqua-Chem brand, we support you from design-build to operation and maintenance. "
