Building on 120 years of strong heritage
It all began in the Benelux region, in the town of Winterswijk (Netherlands), in 1904, when Gerrit Jan Nijhuis founded a small machine factory after ending a previous partnership. What started as a local workshop quickly became a regional cornerstone, initially focused on repairing machinery for the textile, dairy, and meat industries.
By the 1920s, the company began designing advanced slaughterhouse systems. In response to rising environmental regulations during the 1960s, Nijhuis developed innovative wastewater solutions. By 1977, the company had grown to 200 employees across three core divisions: Pumps, Slaughterhouse Technology, and Wastewater.
The 1980s marked the formal expansion of the water division with the founding of Nijhuis Water. Technologies like the GDF flotation unit and IPL lamella separator were launched, and the company relocated to Dinxperlo—strategically positioned in the Benelux to support growing international operations.
Between 1993 and 2012, Nijhuis introduced tertiary treatment systems and entered the biogas market, embracing the concept of turning waste into value. In 2020, Nijhuis joined the Saur Group, becoming Nijhuis Saur Industries (NSI) and leading its Industrial Water division. Today, rooted in the Benelux and active worldwide, NSI continues to expand through strategic acquisitions.
In 2024, it proudly celebrates 120 years of innovation with its mission: "The Future is Water."
